The Storks of Altreu

The largest stork colony in Europe is located at the inn “Zum Grüene Aff”, directly on the River Aare near Altreu. The innkeeper bought the picture from Fritz and displayed it in the restaurant, where it hung for decades. The dense and colorful picture shows the birds building their nests on the bank of the Aare in spring, with the Jura Mountains in the background as a dark band against the light blue sky.
