Description
The Blackbird and the Nuthatch, watercolor on handmade vat paper
33 x 48 cm
From the collection of the Atelier Fritz Hug

This wonderful colored brush drawing seems to tell a story: A blackbird looks upward, spellbound, where a nuthatch is clinging to a tree trunk. The nuthatch, however, does not seem to be paying attention to the blackbird and is looking in a different direction. Perhaps the blackbird is amazed that the nuthatch is one of the very few birds that can run down trees upside down. And as is often the case with Fritz’s watercolors, we have very little color and yet a lot of image before our eyes.
