Description
Pelicans at the Amsterdam Zoo, brushdrawing on handmade paper
24 x 33 cm
From the collection of the Atelier Fritz Hug
Creation year
1972
In 1972, Fritz made a trip through northern Europe to paint animals in zoos on site. All he had with him was paper, watercolor and charcoal pencils. At the Amsterdam Zoo, he created some very fine and fleeting brush drawings, such as these pelicans perched close together and grooming their plumage. To depict optical depth, Fritz applied the watercolor a little paler from the front of the picture towards the back.
