This watercolor of a goosander has a remarkable story: In the spring of 1988, Fritz fell seriously ill and was in a coma for several weeks. By the fall, he had recovered enough to pick up his paintbrush again. When you look at the painting, you can sense his creative energy, but at the same time you can also feel the physical weakness he was in. At that time, he added a two to the date on his works for some time, expressing his gratitude for a second life, which unfortunately was only to last until the spring of 1989.
