Fritz wanted to paint all of Switzerland’s breeding bird species for the CH91 national exhibition, which never actually took place. On the one hand, he wanted to depict the birds in a scientifically correct way, hence the labels in five languages, but on the other hand, he also wanted to create works of art. In the case of this male pintail swimming in the shallow pond water, he has succeeded brilliantly in doing both.
