Description
Merlin, oil on canvas
35 x 27 cm
Creation year
1969
The Merlin is the smallest falcon species in Europe. Barely the size of a pigeon itself, it mainly hunts small birds, which it catches in the air. Fritz painted the picture for the big WWF exhibition in Zurich’s Helmhaus in 1970, but the species is not considered endangered today. Although the bird is embedded in a harmonious color background, the painting still has the character of a scientific illustration.
