Description

Dragonfly, oil on concrete

2.9 x 2.15 m

Creation year

1977

In 1977, Fritz was commissioned to paint the concrete walls of the Buhn swimming hall in Zurich. He painted native fish on two of the walls and other animals associated with water on the third, slightly smaller back wall. This dragonfly lived in the water as a larva for up to four years. In contrast, its lifespan as an adult insect lasts only a few weeks. The transparent wings with their fine veins appear as white spots wherever they reflect the sunlight – simply masterfully painted.
