Description
Hawk strikes Jay, mosaic
100 x 100 cm
Creation year
early 1970s
In the 1970s, Fritz created a mosaic for a school building in Nürensdorf. It consists of four parts featuring native animals. Fritz created this motif of a hawk striking a jay as both a mosaic and an oil painting; we do not know which work was created first. The animal shown is probably a female, as a fully grown jay would be too large a prey for the significantly smaller male hawk. Fritz’s style is also clearly recognizable in the mosaic.
To get an impression of this monumental work, the mosaic is shown below in its entirety.
