Description
Badger in an Autumnal Forrest, mosaic
86 x 80 cm
Creation year
early 1970s
In the 1970s, Fritz created a mosaic for a school building in Oberwil. It consists of four parts featuring native animals. For the autumnal forest floor in this section of the mosaic, Fritz split green, brown, and reddish stones to create a flat surface. However, he left the stones in their otherwise round or oval shape to represent leaves. For the bristly fur of the badger, light-colored stones were cut all around to create small rectangles. Fritz’s typical style is immediately recognizable even in this completely different pictorial technique.
To get an impression of this monumental work, the mosaic is shown below in its entirety.
