Description
Eglantine Hug, oil on canvas
Creation year
1949
The painting shows a portrait of the artist’s mother from 1949. Fritz was neither successful nor able to make a living from his art at the time, and his parents were not very enthusiastic about his choice of profession. The reserved expression on his mother’s face seems to reflect this. Fritz had not yet found his style, but what is immediately apparent when looking at the picture is that Fritz was already a true master at depicting eyes.
