The famous French writer Colette effectively created a literary monument to the cat Nonoche in her short story of the same title. This slender and sturdy beauty, apparantly Colette’s favorite cat, is said to have retained her youthful charm even as a mother of eighteen kittens. With watercolor and colored pencil Fritz has placed a small kitten at the top left of this timelessly beautiful lithograph. Whether it is the young Nonoche or one of her many kittens remains a mystery, since we can no longer ask either Fritz or his admirer Ernst Wildi-Rohr about it today.
