In the late 1960s, Fritz began working with the WWF. He was asked if he could put together a large exhibition of paintings depicting endangered species. In September 1970, the time had come: a Hug exhibition was held at the Helmhaus in Zurich under the patronage of the WWF. The exhibition was a great success, with half of the proceeds going to the WWF. The exhibition catalog comprises 35 color images and 59 black-and-white images. 112 copies of the catalog were bound in leather and signed and numbered by the artist.
Fans of Fritz Hug will find many of the Swiss animal painter’s most famous works reproduced in the catalog. One example is the painting “Hippo Feeling” below, which was displayed and sold at the exhibition:
