Description
The Tschierva Glacier, oil on canvas
100 x 80 cm
From the Collection of the Ernst-Wildi-Rohr-Stiftung
Creation year
1970s
The image shows the Biancograt with Piz Bernina and Piz Scerscen, and Piz Rosegg to the right, likely viewed from Piz Corvatsch. In front of the peaks lies the Tschierva Glacier, which still contained significantly more ice than it does today. In this dynamic composition, the mountains soar high into the electric blue sky and fill a large portion of the image. From there, the viewer’s gaze is drawn down into the valley toward the glacier, whose energy and movement are conveyed through broad brushstrokes and visible texture in an Impressionist style.
