Fritz was a great admirer of the Impressionists. Every now and then he tried his hand at the art of capturing a fleeting impression in a painting in which colors and shapes somehow dissolve, blue no longer appears blue, black no longer appears black, and the light of the sun fools the eye into seeing things that at the moment appear to be quite different from what they actually are. This oil painting of California sea lions bathing may serve as an example.
