The European wildcat was extinct in Switzerland in the 19th century. Because the species has been protected throughout Europe since 1962, it has since managed to re-establish itself, particularly in the forests of the Jura. It is considered shy of humans and cannot be tamed. In this lithograph, Fritz has tried to capture the wild and unapproachable nature of this proud animal.
