Description
Sitting Serval, oil on canvas
Creation year
1970s
With its large ears, rather small head and overlong legs, the serval does not resemble any other cat species but forms a genus of its own. Because it mainly feeds on rodents such as mice and rats, it is welcome as a neighbor to humans and is therefore not endangered. Fritz first depicted the animal’s body from the side before settling on a purely frontal view. However, the part of the cat’s body that is only fleetingly painted over is still quite clearly visible.
