Otter in the Water, watercolor on handmade paper
48 x 33 cm
From the collection of the Atelier Fritz Hug
Creation year
1988
This watercolor is almost like a search picture: at first you can only see a few broad yellow, reddish-brown and blue stripes. Then your gaze falls upon this otters head, which must have just emerged from the water at the top center of the picture. As with Fritz’s charcoal drawings, just a few distinctive strokes, each of which sits precisely right. Only now do we recognize the body of the slender predator in a blur, distorted by the fine waves caused by the animal’s own emergence. This work once again raises the question: is there any better way to depict this?
