Description
Lynx Portrait, oil on canvas
Creation year
1985
The lynx, the largest wild cat in Europe, was exterminated in Switzerland in the 19th century. After the cat became protected throughout Europe, it was released and reintroduced to Switzerland in 1971. Today, around 250 of these wonderful animals live in Switzerland, mainly in the Jura, but also in the foothills of the Alps. Fritz has painted, drawn or lithographed almost countless lynxes, this one on raw linen as an actual portrait of this proud cat, which seems to be looking directly at the viewer.
