Cougars are solitary animals, only during the mating season do they move around in pairs for a few days. We can therefore assume that this picture shows two cats willing to mate. As the largest of all small cats, pumas are similar to domestic cats, which is also reflected in the mobility of their ears. In this lithograph, the proceeds of which Fritz donated to Zurich Zoo, he has depicted two of the ear positions typical of cats: The animal on the right is alert and curious, while the one on the left expresses insecurity and a readiness to defend itself.
