Description
Jaguar “Roi du Brésil”, oil on canvas
Creation year
1978
The jaguar is the third largest cat on earth after tiger and lion and is significantly larger and more powerful than the leopard, its Eurasian relative. Apart from humans, it has no natural enemies. The animal in this picture seems to be aware of this without any false pretensions. The shaded area of fur under the chin is of a similar color to the one Fritz chose for the background, which further emphasizes the jaguar’s head and supposedly proud facial expression.
