Description
Proboscis Monkey, watercolor on handmade vat paper
33 x 48 cm
From the collection Atelier Fritz Hug
Creation year
1976
Fritz didn’t shy away from rather unwieldy tasks. The proboscis monkey, until the 1980s also a resident of the Basel Zoo, where Fritz saw and drew him, is really not a candidate for a petting zoo. To this day, science offers no conclusive explanation as to the purpose of this grotesque-looking nose. However, this watercolor charcoal drawing proves that it is possible to make a masterful drawing of a rather awkward subject.
