Description
Strolling Chimpanzee Baby, oil on canvas
Creation year
1979/80
Great apes usually move around on all fours on the ground, walking on their knuckles—the backs of their fingers—as is clearly visible in this picture of a chimpanzee baby. And once again, Fritz has not merely depicted an animal; rather, one feels that the facial expression reveals the individuality of this particular little ape. The color scheme is also interesting: the blue-violet of the fur, the beige-reddish skin on the face, hands, and feet, and the pale green of the background form what amounts to a three-pointed star on a color wheel.
