The Hotel du Moulin at Saint-Sulpice, oil on canvas
80 x 60 cm
Creation year
1985
When Fritz saw the Hotel du Moulin in Saint-Sulpice for the first time, it was love at first sight. The long tin sign with yellow lettering on a red background, the simple, symmetrical facade with the baroque balcony railing in the middle, the shortened hipped roof—everything about this building is somehow unusual, yet simply and beautifully so. Meanwhile, an ugly neon sign on the facade and a loveless extension in front of the house have severely disfigured its appearance. Fortunately, Fritz had unpacked his painting supplies at the time and captured this gem for us.
