Tree in Late Summer

As a very young painter, Fritz had not yet found his typical style and often experimented with his painting. In this wonderful little oil painting, a tree in a withered field on a hazy late summer day, behind which you can see a settlement with a church, he explored the boundaries of representational painting in an impressionistic manner. Colors and shapes blur together in the bright backlight.
