Description
Zermatt am 1. August 1966, oil on canvas
Creation year
1966
In the 1960s, we often spent a few days in Zermatt during the summer. In this car-free village, horse-drawn carriages lined up at the train station to take vacationers to their hotels; the picture shows magnificently decorated horses on the occasion of Swiss National Day. The picture is only available in our archive as a used postcard; on closer inspection, you can even see the trace of a postmark at the top.
An update: We have since received a photograph of the painting from the owner, who visited our archive. It is significantly wider; our postcard shows only a portion of the image. Therefore, here is the entire painting in its original format.
