Description
Bietschhorn, oil on canvas
100 x 50 cm
from the collection of the Atelier Fritz Hug
Creation year
1980
The Bietschhorn is probably the most striking peak in the southern part of the Bernese Alps, which are part of the canton of Valais. Fritz painted the mountain on site, and was photographed doing so; the photograph is also part of our image archive.
In 2025, the small Nesthorn, part of the Bietschhorn, collapsed onto the village of Blatten in the Lötschental valley. However, the appearance of this picture has not changed because the northwestern flank of the mountain, which is not visible here, was affected.
