Nice – Prommenade des Anglais

After an accident that left him with a serious knee injury, Fritz was discharged from active service in the Swiss army. He moved to southern France to live with an uncle who earned his living painting souvenir pictures for tourists, becoming his pupil, so to speak. Only a few of his paintings from that period have survived. A particularly fine example is this view of the Promenade des Anglais, which looks almost exactly the same today: the dome of the Hotel Negresco still towers above the other buildings, and the long white pergola on the left of the picture still provides shade today.
