Description

Evera Day the Arvenhäher Flew by, oil on canvas

Creation year

1969

For several years, Fritz was allowed to use a house in Champfèr in the Engadin for painting trips. The picture shows the view from the terrace across the Engadin lakes to the mountains in the background with the majestic Piz da la Margna. In the middle of the picture, a bird flies by, whereby Fritz probably made a mistake in in naming the species. Although the bird feeds almost exclusively on the small nuts of the Swiss stone pine (German: Arve), it is still called a Tannenhäher in German. Possibly it’s called Arvenhäher by the locals, just as Fritz wrote in the picture.

While painting the picture, Fritz was photographed, which we can see here.
