Description
A Cuckoo at the Walensee, oil on canvas
Creation year
1970s
Fritz dedicated this work to Ernst Georg Rüegg, a Swiss painter who also taught at the School of Applied Arts in Zurich. The focus of the painting is on the cuckoo in the foreground, loudly welcoming spring, as well as on the Churfirsten mountain range on the horizon. The lake, its shores, and the villages lying between these two planes of the picture are all depicted only sketchily. In this way, Fritz drew the viewer’s gaze to the elements of the picture that he considered essential. Unfortunately, the art dealer who put the painting on the market in 2025 had the dedication at the bottom of the picture removed.
