Description
Flock of Sheep in Front of San Gian, oil on canvas
Creation year
late 1960s
Fritz painted the landmark church of San Gian near Celerina several times on location. In addition to the original Romanesque tower, the church also has a much larger Gothic tower, which was severely damaged by a lightning strike in 1682. The damage was never repaired, first for financial reasons and later for reasons of monument preservation. In this work, Fritz has added a flock of sheep that was crossing the valley while he was there painting at his easel.
