Squirrel in front of Alpine Larch Forest

This painting dates from a period when Fritz left no part of the canvas unpainted. But while the squirrel in the center of the picture is precisely depicted down to the last detail, the ground and the alpine larches in the background are almost fleetingly thrown in, almost as if the aperture of a camera had been set exactly to the position of the squirrel.
