Description
Beaver WWF, oil on canvas
81 x 60 cm
Creation year
1969
First exhibited at the Helmhaus Zurich in the 1970 WWF Exhibition
Beavers were almost wiped out in Europe. It was not until the 20th century that their importance for biodiversity was recognized and the species became strictly protected. Today, healthy populations can once again be found in large parts of Europe. A beaver was therefore also featured in the major exhibition “Fritz Hug and WWF – Endangered Animals” at the Helmhaus Zurich in 1970. The image has the character of a scientific illustration, but with the reflection of light in the animal’s wet fur and the light blue stripes of the marsh landscape, it also has the quality of an artistically sophisticated composition.
