Four Young Hedgehogs

The young hedgehogs, in the typical litter size of four siblings, provide each other with warmth and security through close physical contact. This is still possible for young hedgehogs because their spines are still quite soft at birth and in the first weeks of life. The picture was probably painted as a design for the lithograph with the same subject, even if the dates do not match exactly.
