Description
Greetings to Langenberg Wildlife Park, oil on canvas
Creation year
1979
The fallow deer is significantly smaller than the red deer. However, male animals have impressive antlers, which resemble those of the moose with their shovel-like shape. The species originates from Asia Minor and was introduced by the Romans as game for hunting almost everywhere in their empire, and has since become native to Europe. The painting is actually a study of antlers, with the bucks eyeing each other suspiciously forming an extremely striking composition with an axis of symmetry through the center of the picture.
