Donkeys are among the earliest domesticated animals and have served humans for thousands of years. The donkey also appears frequently in Christian tradition, for example in the stable at the birth of Christ. Fritz has repeatedly used donkeys as a subject for his paintings. The painter’s affection and admiration for this creature can also be clearly felt in this work, which consists of just a few precise strokes of charcoal and a little watercolor.
