Description
Watussi Cattle, charcoal and watercolor on handmade paper
Creation year
1978
Watussi are domesticated cattle found in Burundi and Rwanda and belong to the African humped cattle family. Their oversized horns serve to cool the animals, but they were also deliberately bred because they determine the animals’ value and thus serve as a status symbol. Only a few works featuring Watussi cattle by Fritz are known, such as this watercolor charcoal drawing. It once again explores the theme of motherhood and captivates with the confident charcoal strokes typical of Fritz, particularly on the mother’s head.
