African Buffalo

Sometimes there is art in omission, something Fritz mastered brilliantly. The picture shows four buffaloes, three of which are only depicted vaguely. The background, consisting of savannah, bushes and a few trees, is also sparsely indicated with a few splashes of color. Only the animal in question, a powerful bull in the middle of the picture, has been clearly drawn with bold charcoal strokes. The power and self-confidence of the proud animal are thus shown to their best advantage.
