Fritz loved ibexes and their horns, which are unique in the animal kingdom and extremely impressive. This painting can therefore be seen as a kind of homage to the king of the Alps. The picture is interesting from a compositional point of view because the animal, which seems to be posing for the artist in the center of the picture, combines all the warm colors from light to dark, while the white-gray-blue background with its cool tones forms a striking contrast.
