This lithograph is a good example of how Fritz often engaged deeply with a subject, slowly developing it using various painting techniques: In 1985, he painted an oil painting he titled “Cheeky Cat.” He liked the charisma of this self-assured animal so much that he decided to create a lithograph of it as well. First, he made a few charcoal sketches of the cat; he then colored a promising draft with watercolor, and finally used this template on the light table to create the color separations for the lithograph.
