Description
Cat With Delphinium, oil on canvas
50 x 100 cm
From the collection Nideröst
Creation year
1983
A cat sits on a weathered wooden post, nestled in a summery mountain meadow. At the left edge of the painting stands a delphinium in full bloom, its violet hue forming a striking contrast to the warm gold and ochre tones of the grass. The loose painting style lends the cat, the flowers, and the meadow a lively quality. Originally (see below), an impressive Alpine landscape with snow-capped peaks stretched out behind the scene. However, Fritz later radically reworked the painting, replacing the mountains with a bright sky dotted with colorful clouds. This brings the cat more into focus and gives the painting a calmer and perhaps even slightly more poetic atmosphere.
