Young Pygmy Hippopotamus

Even though this watercolor almost looks as if it were a preparatory study for the painting “Beau Bébé”, it was actually created six years later and is thus a work of art in its own right. What is remarkable about this type of Fritz’s watercolors is how, with very little color in the right places, a colorful picture emerges from a monochrome charcoal drawing.
